Peru is the biggest town in Miami County and a lot of it is old. The blocks around the courthouse square and out along Main and Broadway are full of houses that have been reroofed more than once already, so work here usually starts with a full tear-off rather than another layer over the top. On a house that age the decking is the real unknown, and it does not show itself until the old roof is stripped.

North and west of town the ground opens up and there is little to slow the wind down. That is where metal earns its cost, and it is what we have been putting on: an RX4 crinkle finish roof in Dark Bronze on a house in Peru, with a new front porch framed at the same time, and a black RX4 up at Macy. On a tighter lot in town a certified Owens Corning or CertainTeed shingle system usually makes better sense. We price both and tell you which one we would choose.

Gutters matter more here than people expect. The older streets have mature trees over them and the ground falls away toward the river, so roof water has to be taken somewhere deliberate. We form seamless steel on site in 5 inch and 6 inch, size the downspouts to the actual roof rather than to habit, and fit leaf guard where the tree cover warrants it.
